Scarlett Johansson’s acting career is a raving success. The starlet is best known for her bombshell appeal, innate coolness, and unmatched talent. Johansson is in fact the highest-paid actress in the world, and has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame.
Johansson was born on November 22, 1984 in Manhattan, NY. Her father is Danish and her mother is Jewish. The actress possesses dual Danish-American citizenship.
Johansson began her acting career early. She landed her first break at the age of eight in a play called ‘Sophistry’ with actor Ethan Hawke. At the age of nine, she starred in her first film debut for fantasy comedy ‘North’.
She appeared in other minor movies roles throughout her childhood years, including ‘Home Alone 3’ and ‘Just Cause.’ It wasn’t until her role in ‘The Horse Whisperer’ that she won accolades for her performance.
Scarlett’s Acting Career
In her adult years, the actress has performed in several movies, including ‘ Lost in Translation,’ ‘The Prestige,’ and ‘Match Point.’ She’s gained superstar status for her parts in Marvel films, especially for her role as the superhero Black Widow.
Her roles have stretched across different mediums. Johansson acted in the play, ‘A View from the Bridge,’ for which she was bestowed with the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress. She is also a skilled singer and has released two albums, ‘Anywhere I Lay My Head’ and ‘Break Up.’
She most recently was due to appear in ‘Rub & Tug’, where she would play Dante “Tex” Gill, a transgender gangster who ran a prostitution ring in the 1970’s and 1980’s. The movie received backlash for casting a cisgender person to a transgender role. For this reason she was forced to drop the movie.
Previously, the star had a fling with actor Ryan Reynolds, whom she ended up marrying in 2008. In 2011, she divorced Reynolds. Later on she met businessman Romain Dauriac who she ended up marrying. The couple had a daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac, in 2014.
Johansson has contributed to many philanthropic causes over the years. She’s shown her support to organizations like USA Harvest, Too Many Women, Cancer Research UK, among many others.
The actress was also the previous ambassador of Oxfam. However, she quit the position after people criticized SodaStream, whose factory was based in Mishor Adumim which is an Israeli settlement in West Bank.
Moreover, the actress is highest-paid female film star in the world and grossed $40.5 million in 2018. She was also the highest paid actress in 2014, 2015, and 2016, with annual earnings of $17 million, $35.5 million, and $25 million, respectively.
