The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard saga continues

The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard saga continues

It seems like the troubled life of Johnny Depp continues to go down the wrong path. As much as his fans want to see a quick turnaround, there appears to be no end in sight. Despite losing $650 million to his lavish lifestyle, a very public divorce and fighting an ugly battle with his former managers for misrepresentation, he has added another feather to his cap now.

Depp has reportedly filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard to the tune of $50 million for breach of non-disclosure agreement and defamation. This lawsuit comes at the heels of Heard’s December 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post where she detailed her alleged domestic abuse at the hands of Depp when they were married.

In her piece for The Washington Post, Heard did not name Depp but describes her experience of speaking out against domestic violence, stating she “faced our culture’s wrath”.

She said she had lost a role in a film, was dropped by a major fashion brand and witnessed “how institutions protect men accused of abuse”.

In the details of the suit, Depp has mentioned that Heard is not the victim of abuse rather she is the perpetrator of the abuse. The suit goes on to mention that Heard’s accusations were a part of her ‘scheme to generate positive publicity’ before the release of  ‘Aquaman’.

“The op-ed depended on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her,” Depp’s lawyers allege.

His lawyers also said: we “look forward to holding the overwhelming video, photographic and eyewitness evidence we finally possess up against Amber Heard’s (so far silent) attempts to explain the inexplicable”.

Heard’s lawyers hit back saying: “This frivolous action is just the latest of Johnny Depp’s repeated efforts to silence Amber Heard,” said Heard’s attorney. “Mr. Depp’s actions prove he is unable to accept the truth of his ongoing abusive behavior. But while he appears hell-bent on achieving self-destruction, we will prevail in defeating this groundless lawsuit and ending the continued vile harassment of my client by Mr. Depp and his legal team.”

Depp and Heard had met on the sets of their critically panned film ‘The Rum Diary’ in 2011 and eventually got married in 2015. Heard filed for divorce in 2016 alleging that Depp had been violent towards her. She had also released a couple of photographs on social media where she was seemingly battered owing to Depp’s abuse.

Depp was then ordered by the court to ‘stay away from her’.

Depp has also claimed that Heard began her much-publicized affair with Tesla and Space-X founder Elon Musk just a month into their marriage. And he has also claimed that Musk was present in his house a day before Heard released ‘those’ incriminating photos on social media and he was nowhere in the vicinity of the house. He also claims that Musk used to visit Heard in the middle of the night when he was out of town shooting movies.

Musk’s legal representation team is yet to issue a statement on the proceedings and the former PayPal co-founder has also chosen to remain mum on the issue on social media.

He also claims that he lost out on his lucrative role as Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise owing to her misdirected allegations.

When the divorce between the two was finalized back in 2017, Heard was made to sign a non-disclosure agreement that forbid her from talking about the details of her marriage with Depp.

Heard had then donated $7 million to the aid of domestic abuse victims from the money she had gotten from her settlement with Depp post her divorce.
