Although currently single, Freeman has been married on two occasions in the past. His first wife was Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, the two were married between 1967–1979. After their divorce, Freeman met Myrna Colley-Lee and married her in 1984. Freeman and Colly-Lee separated in 2010. He has two extramarital children.

The Star Talks About Racism

In 1955, he had joined the army. In the first episode of ‘The Story of Us with Morgan Freeman,’ he says: “When I was 18, I joined the Air Force. And I did well enough on my tests to qualify as an electronics countermeasures operator. But, I was told I couldn’t take that job. Apparently, no black man could fly with the Strategic Air Command.”

President Truman had banned segregated units in 1938 and inculcated African-American servicemen. By the time Freeman had joined, all posts were open to African-Americans. Nevertheless, Morgan still faced racism issues during his stint with the Air Force despite the President’s efforts to prohibit segregation.

His work with the Air Force helped him earn a private pilot’s license later in life, and at present, the star owns at least three private aircraft.

During an interview with ‘60 Minutes’ in 2005, he said: “I don’t want a black history month. Black history is American history.”

Sexual Harassment Allegations

Earlier in the year, the actor was bestowed with the SAG Life Achievement Award by the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. This is the top award granted by SAG-AFTRA. However, there were criticisms that he should return the award after accusations of several sexual harassment cases arose from eight different women in the wake of the #metoo movement.

Most of the women claimed that he had made inappropriate comments to them. Even after issuing an apology, Freeman maintained that he never “crossed the line,” insisting that he made the comments in jokingly, to help people “feel appreciated and at ease around” him.

Later, SAG said that Freeman could keep the award after the union had conducted a probe into the allegations.

Charity work

Freeman has been dedicated to many causes and contributions to various charities. He was the co-founder of the Grenada Relief Fund, which aimed to provide relief to people affected by Hurricane Ivan. The fund has now expanded into PLANIT NOW, and works towards providing relief and aid for people living in hurricane-affected areas.
